BTNF is proud to implement the NEW “Music for F.U.N. (Fundamental Understanding of Notes)” after school music program to serve 50 youth, grades K - 7, in Northeast and Southwest Baltimore City during the school year. Youth enrolled in this program will be inspired to learn and grow from the following planned music arts enrichment activities:

  • Steel Pan from The Caribbean

  • Beat Making, Music Composition & Production

  • Lyric Writing & Poetic Expression in Hip-Hop, Pop, and R&B genres

  • Acoustic & African Drumming

  • Piano Playing & Vocal Performance

  • Campaign Messaging through Music Video Development

  • Live Music Presentation & Performance

  • Digital Album Release on SoundCloud

  • YouTube Music Video Releases

The program will take place in two locations with the following schedule:

  • Faith Presbyterian Church (Northeast) - Mon, Wed, Fri - 4:00-6:00pm [starts Nov 14th]

  • Baltimore International Academy West (Southwest) - Tues & Thurs - 3:45-4:45pm [starts Nov 3rd]

These locations allow BTNF to help mitigate accessibility issues and better serve youth and families in the communities we serve. Our after school program addresses the whole child and their community by utilizing expressive arts methods of simple skill and focused sensitivity to enhance their capacity for sharing their thoughts, feelings and experience. In this way, youth come to know themselves on a deeper level, become aware of their impact on those around them and allow them to encounter their world with compassion and presence. Youth develop by improving soft skills like writing and critical thinking skills as they write songs, engineer, and produce music. They learn about their history and the journey of their ancestors as they learn African Drumming and Steel Pan. Through creatively collaborating, youth improve Behavior and Emotional Well-being, Communication and Social Skills, and Motor Development.
